The second edition of the Postsecret Postcard of the Week!

Thursday, November 23, 2006

"We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures." -Thornton Wilder

A lot of bad things happen in the world everyday, and none of those bad things are difficult to see or hear. The media is often criticized for showing the bad, rather than good, and making things out to be much worse than they are. The truth is, if we never watched or read or heard the news, most of us would still know more bad than good. When someone asks us how we are, we're much more likely to think of our discomforts rather than what is making us happy.
Today is a day to think about what makes us happy. No bad news. No tears. Just laughing and loving and celebrating the good stuff.
When you wake up tomorrow, after sleeping off the tryptophan, remember what you were happy about today, and don't hesitate to be happy about it again. After all, it is love that makes the world go 'round. And the more happiness and love, the better.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." -J.F.K.

something new

I think I'm going to post a Postsecret postcard here every week or so...just one that touched me or that I think other people should see as well. Here's this week's.

P.S.
I'm a UU! Officially!

Question of the Day

Why is it so hard to tell people how you feel? Why do people make up feelings, rather than just explaining the real ones? Even though everyone gets hurt by others doing this to them, why do most people turn around and do it themselves?

It has been a long time since I have had time to think. Time to think about something other than school and responsibilities, at least.

As my last post said, I am terribly dissapointed in Wisconsin. I hurt for each and every individual, couple, or family, who will be affected by the discrimination that is now written into our state constitution. We have long been a progressive state (after all, our motto is "Forward"), but we have now taken giant steps backwards rather than showing the rest of the country the leadership we are capable of. It is interesting to live in the little world of a college campus, where everyone was so adament about voting no and spreading awareness about this sickening amendment, and then to have it pass and be surrounded by the same people who are now so devestated with the results. If the majority of the people you know are opposed to it, it seems even more unlikely that it would be successful. But then comes the realization that your world is a miniscule fraction of the real world, and that unfortunately the bigots of our time are often capable of speaking the loudest and influencing the most. There are no excuses for that. Many would argue, but it's as simple as that---there are NO excuses. You may think that for you personally, this outcome is appropriate. What you are not thinking of, then, are the people who this amendment actually affects. If it will never have an impact on your life, what right do you have to impose it on someone elses? I am angry and dissapointed, yet I am still able to have confidence that this will not be permanent. Maybe as a country we aren't ready for it yet, but one day we will be. If our generation has confidence in ourselves and in one another, we can be the change. I don't have any other choice but to believe that.

In other news, I am lonely. That's not news, I suppose, but it's the truth. Want to know something else that's true? Stranger Than Fiction is a fabulous movie.

I think that's all to write for now. The next time I'm able to take a minute and think, I might just write again.

waiting on the world to change

Oh, the horrific dissapointment.

Congratulations 100 times over to all the amazing Dems who won yesterdays races! Changes WILL be made!
